Welcome to my blog! My name is Cara Sartorio, I am a student at UVic in the Elementary BEd program. Pictured above is my sweet boy Fang the apex predator of his “jungle” who is currently curled up in my lap as I type. I’ve lived here on Vancouver island my whole life and honestly cannot imagine living anywhere else. Whether it’s driving down the road and ending up at the ocean, or a hiking trail, or just anywhere surrounded by trees, this island is a beautiful place to live.
I’ve spent the majority of my life working with kids in one form or another. I was a dance teacher for 4 years, worked as a respite worker in a level 7 foster home, I spent 4 years working as a support worker with a lovely complex needs child, then worked for 4.5 years as an EA in SD63. I’ve always known that I wanted to work with children but the thought of becoming a teacher never crossed my mind until I started working as an EA. As soon as I walked into that first classroom, I realized that I would at some point head back to school to get my teaching degree. I am so grateful for the experiences I have had this far that have led me to pursue a career in teaching.
Technology has always been a little scary to me. I don’t consider myself a very tech savvy person, and so I am a little nervous to start this course. However, I know how important technology is in the classroom and am very much looking forward to (hopefully) becoming a more tech savvy student and future educator!
